Ofsted Report

April 2009  

The report of Her Majesty’s Inspector following the inspection at the end of April describes the College as “providing a good quality of education” and highlights the following:  

  • A caring and inclusive ethos is at the heart of the College
  • The curriculum is outstanding
  • The provision of vocational courses is exceptional
  • Good teaching promotes students’ positive attitudes to learning and ensures they make good progress
  • Student’s personal development and behaviour are good
  • Respectful relationships between staff and students underpin the calm and mature atmosphere in the College
  • Students make an outstanding contribution to the College and to the local community
  • Parents hold overwhelmingly positive views about the work of the College
  • The College is well lead and managed
  • Leaders at all levels have a clear, shared vision for the College in which raising the achievement of all students is central
  • Teaching and learning in Sixth Form lessons are good, and at times outstanding
  • Leadership of the Sixth Form is good, with a clear vision for its future direction
  • Sixth Form students play a full part in the life of the College and the wider community
  • Students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities make good progress due to the varied and individually tailored support they receive
  • Students clearly enjoy College and describe it as “warm and friendly”
  • Good opportunities to develop leadership skills, together with the wide range of vocational course, ensure that students are well prepared for their future employment
