Psychology

Over one hundred students in the Sixth Form study psychology.  The popular OCR course is followed and provides an excellent grounding in Psychological principles.

Currently specialist topics taught at A2 are Crime and Environment.

The Psychology Team aims to help students to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the key assumptions underlying the five core areas of knowledge and understanding of methodology
  • An ability to analyse and evaluate theory and psychological evidence
  • An ability to consider cultural, social and ethical implications of psychology
  • An ability to apply psychological concepts to practical problems and to everyday life
  • An ability to plan, execute, analyse and evaluate their own practical work

The Psychology team seeks to deliver relevant, enjoyable, stimulating and challenging programmes of study, which are in line with these aims.

The science of mind and behaviour underpins our whole social being.  Our ability to appreciate diversity and to communicate is of key importance as traditional barriers both physical and technological break down.

Psychology occupies a privileged position in that connections can be made not only between ‘A’ Level subjects but across all that we do.
