Drama

Y9 Production of Maria Marten: Summer 2008

The Drama Department has a thriving, innovative and dynamic performance culture.  Drama is currently housed in three specialist rooms, one of which is a well-equipped performance studio, off the main College Hall and adjacent to the Music rooms.  Another is a newly built Performing Arts space with a sprung floor.

In year 9 students receive two one hour lessons of Drama per fortnight; GCSE students have five lessons per fortnight with Years 12 and 13 students having nine lessons per timetable rotation.

We follow Edexcel GCSE and A Level Drama courses which allow us to ensure that our students have a wide ranging and relevant Drama curriculum which stretches their experience and maximises their potential.  Results over the years have been very good with many students choosing to pursue Drama into Higher Education and beyond.

We aim to give Drama students a wider experience of live theatre and contemporary performance despite our rural location. We offer regular trips across all year groups to London, Exeter, Plymouth, Bristol and our local Regal Theatre.

We offer students the opportunity to be involved in regular extra curricular productions as performers and in a technical capacity. Encouraging students to develop their live theatre skills and areas of interest.  We produce a year 9 production, a whole college production in the spring term and 6th form studio productions.  There are also public performances of the A Level and GCSE Drama examination pieces and regular concerts.

The Drama Team is part of Expressive Arts including; Music, Dance, Performing Arts and Art, with students and staff alike working collaboratively together within the curriculum and on extra curricular activities.  We seek to share experiences and expertise and a philosophy, which is inclusive and believes in the Arts as a fundamental way of organising our understanding of the world.
