Welcome to The West Somerset Community College’s website. We are redeveloping the website to improve access to information about the College as well as proudly showing our vibrant learning environment that inspires all our students to achieve their full potential.
This is a very exciting time at the College with the extension to the vocational facilities recently completed and the introduction of a variety of new courses, including apprenticeships. The College is designing a programme that will be available to all members of the West Somerset community, ranging from adult learners to local businesses.
In these ever-changing times we are always looking to broaden our range of partnerships so would actively encourage anyone who would like to become involved in the education of our students to please contact me so that we can further develop our breadth of partnerships.
Meet the Principal
I am really excited to join the College at a time where preparing young people for the realities of 21st Century futures is of great importance. We offer a diverse curriculum including academic and vocational qualifications to ensure every student has the ability to fulfil their potential. Our focus is creating brighter futures for our community and developing our young people into citizens for the future, equipping them with the skills and attributes to scale the heights of their ambition.
At 47, I am a mother of two sons who are both at university, and my husband works at Plymouth University. I have worked in a large variety of schools over the past 25 years. I started in an all-girls’ school in Southampton, moved to a mixed 11-16 school in Basingstoke, and led Chemistry at an 11-18 boys’ school in Wokingham. I then succeeded in becoming the Head of Chemistry at an 11-18 mixed school in Wallingford. I then moved to an 11-18 Catholic school in High Wycombe where I was senior teacher in charge of Teaching & Learning. I then became Deputy Head of Field Green Community School, an 11-18 mixed comprehensive where I was for 4 years, before becoming Head at an 11-18 Buckinghamshire upper school – Sir William Ramsay – for the last 8 years.
In all of my posts, my focus has always been to ensure the students have the best opportunities possible; with a priority on developing both academically and socially to ensure they have the greatest successes.
